My Military Service

Welcome Home to all Veterans and Thank You for your service to our country!

Good people sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

In October of 1970, at the age of 17, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and in particular the Army Security Agency. I took my Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Tank Hill. D-5-1. Amazing! I still remember that after almost 40 years.

After Basic Training I was shipped up to Ft. Devens, just outside Ayer, Massachusetts. The Army took this, (at that time), Florida boy and shipped him to Massachusetts in January of 1971. I drove in snow for the first time in my life AND SURVIVED. I also survived the traffic circles in Boston. Ft Devens no longer exists. It was closed several years ago during one of the base closing fiascos.

After training at Ft. Devens, I was shipped to Non Sung Thailand. (Also known as Udon Thani or Udorn). I spent a year in that part of the world at a base known as the "7th R.R.F.S". Some of it fun and some of it the most horrid times a teenager could endure. There are pictures of the 7th HERE>>>>

My MOS was 05H-20, EW/SIGINT Morse Interceptor. Our mission during the war was classified Top Secret. The government or military has never contacted me to advise me otherwise so I still treat it as it's Top Secret.

'Veteran' -- whether active duty, honorably discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his or her life.'

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact!!
